Why Set Goals in 2021

We have officially entered the holiday season. The end of 2020 is in sight. For many of us, it will be a relief to have made it through this year. But aside from a number on the calendar, what will really change in 2021?

Truthfully, that is up to you. The most successful people reflect and project, reflect on the past, and project what they want the future to look like. While we cannot control what happens outside of ourselves, we can control our actions and work toward the future we project and desire.

Not long ago, Kim Kiyosaki, Rich Woman, gave a talk to a small group that I was involved with. She spoke about a concept called precessional events. Precession, defined by R. Buckminster Fuller, is the effect of bodies in motion on other bodies in motion.

In the demonstration, she drew an arrow across the page and lines perpendicular to the arrow. At the end of the arrow is your goal. The perpendicular lines are the things that happen as you head toward your goal. You may or may not be aware of these precessional events or side effects as you are heading toward your goal.

What if these “side effects” were actually the main effects, the events that were necessary for things to progress? If you were not moving toward your goal, they would not happen.

If you’re sitting there wondering, “what is she talking about?” Take this story of the honey bee for example:

Seemingly inadvertently, the honey-bee goes about his business of gathering honey. Precessionally, at ninety degrees to his body and his flight path, his legs gather pollen from one flower and “accidentally” take this pollen to the next flower, resulting in cross pollination. The outcome of this seemingly inadvertent accidental activity is that the bee contributes enormously to life on earth. Of the 100 crop species that provide 90 percent of the world’s food, over 70 are pollinated by bees.

If goal setting strikes you as boring and ineffective, especially if you’re someone who repeatedly sets them and doesn’t reach them, it’s time to change your thinking. Set the goal, move toward the goal, keeping it in mind with every decision and opportunity that comes your way, and watch what happens.

If one of your goals is to create passive income next year in a socially responsible way, schedule a call. While one simple conversation may seem like a small, insignificant piece in the journey to achieving such a big goal, consider this: What if creates your first perpendicular line? Let’s talk about it, it’s the first step toward creating the future you desire for yourself.
