[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today will be a quick brag because I am so happy.
Time to celebrate!
It finally happened. It was two years in the making, and a lot of times, it seemed like it wasn’t going to happen. This week was the grand opening of the first full-service grocery store in North Tulsa in more than 10 years!
A company that Money with Mission is working with, EcoAlliance Group, helped to bring this vision to fruition. This shows how private and public partnerships can work to accomplish great things!
Money for this project came from private investors via direct investment or through new market tax credits, the city, and several local foundations. This is a for-profit grocery store.
We did our due diligence, and we expect to have good returns for our investors.
This comes just before the centennial anniversary of the greatest race massacre in our country, The Tulsa Race Massacre. I have to admit again that I knew nothing of this until I started working on this project.
Many believe that much of the disparity in Tulsa stems from this massacre. Studies have shown that northern Tulsans can expect to live 11 years less than their southern Tulsa counterparts.
I now live in Tulsa—the distance from north to south is about 5 miles. The economic differences are very apparent in the drive from north to south.
The city is working to fix it, and I believe that they will, with the help of the diligent crew that also helped to bring this grocery store to life.
Food deserts are real…another thing that I did not appreciate until starting this project. Our goal is to eliminate them and teach entrepreneurship along the way. This is our prototype for other desert area grocery stores. We are planning others and are considering developing a franchise model.
We will need private investors to take a stake. We plan to purchase land and build or rehab buildings to become grocery stores.
We can eliminate food deserts, improve quality of life, and take one more worry off of the minds of so many who wonder how they’ll feed their children.
The ripple effect will be enormous!
If being a part of improving the lives of many by improving the quality of food available to them is of interest to you, let me know.
We will keep you informed of our progress in getting the next store up and running. Together, we can put your money to work for you and your family, as well as the families of food deserts.
