Do You Need More Money to Enjoy Life?

Let’s talk about… MONEY!

Usually, we talk about building wealth and having options.

Today, head-on, let’s talk about money.

A few years ago, that statement would have really bothered me. I probably would have never gotten past the first sentence.

How can money be the most important thing in the world? What about family and love and friends?

If you stopped at that sentence or closed your mind to what might come next, I urge you to go back, read the whole thing, and think about your life and the lives of others that you may know.

Heck, think back to the past year of 2020!

It really got to me when I thought about money and health.

As you know, I have been a medical doctor for over 25 years. In that time, I’ve realized that those with money, disposable income, have more options when it comes to their health. They are not tied to what their insurance company will pay for.

There have been times when I knew that an “alternative” treatment was right for a patient (an herbalist, chiropractor or functional medicine specialist), but that patient could not afford anything outside of what their insurance company would pay for. They had to opt for medication or surgery, and the risks associated, rather than what might actually cure them.

I am currently living in a rental house in a lower-income part of the city. The houses are functional. They give the resident somewhere to go after work and have their life. There is little-to-no “extra”. I drove to a higher-income neighborhood and felt lighter, brighter—it was weird!

Yes, the houses were bigger, but that wasn’t it. Yes, the lawns were manicured, but the grass is cut at the houses in my neighborhood. Then I realized that it was the extras, the landscaping and the beautification of the property that made the difference.

These were not just functional buildings…they were beautiful buildings. These people had the money to make their surroundings beautiful!

One other example…grocery stores. Yes, there is a lack of grocery stores in my neighborhood.

One will be opening soon, and it is beautiful. This is thanks to EcoAlliance Group in partnership with the Tulsa Economic Development Corporation.

I’m happy that there will soon be a grocery store. I noticed that the offerings in this grocery store are different from the offerings in the stores in the higher-income neighborhoods. It’s not the extraordinary things, but more of the brand options offered.

All of this is to say, we have to have money. Money is what we use to get what we want.

Having money gives us security. Why? Because, when we have enough, we know that we can meet most obstacles and get by them. We have options.

What do you think about money?

Do you love it, or do you hate it? Do you think it’s evil? Do you feel that if you want a lot of it, it will make you evil? Let’s be honest, we all want money. I certainly do, and it has taken me some time to realize that I am not wrong to want it.

I need money to make the difference that I know that I am here to make.

What do you want more of?
